The proposed provisions transpose Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2025/1802 amending Directive 2011/65/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards an exemption for lead in high melting temperature solders, Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2025/2363 amending Directive 2011/65/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards an exemption for lead in glass or ceramic components and Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2025/2364 amending Directive 2011/65/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards an exemption for lead as an alloying element in steel, aluminium and copper, thereby providing for the following exemption renewals respectively:
- an exemption renewal for the use of for lead in high melting temperature solders;
- an exemption renewal for the use of lead in glass or ceramic components;
- an exemption renewal for the use of lead as an alloying element in steel, aluminium and copper.
The aforementioned exemptions allow for the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment for a limited period of time, where the substitution and, or elimination of such substances is technically or scientifically impractical. The proposed short term renewal exemptions have not been considered to weaken the environmental and health protection.
Additionally, the proposed provisions also transpose Corrigendum to Directive 2011/65/EU by providing for a correction to a reference used in Article 7 (Obligations of importers).
