Subsidiary Legislation 427.64<\/a>, Framework for the Setting of Ecodesign Requirements for Energy-Related Products Regulations, transposes Directive 2009\/125\/EC<\/a> of the European Parliament and of the Council of 21 October 2009 establishing a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-related products.<\/p>\n\n

Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The Directive and regulations establish a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-related products with the aim of ensuring the free movement of such products within the internal market. They provide for the setting of requirements which the energy-related products, covered by implementing measures, must fulfil in order to be placed on the market and\/or put into service. They contribute to sustainable development by increasing energy efficiency and the level of protection of the environment, while at the same time increasing the security of the energy supply.<\/p>\n\n

Applicability<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The Directive and regulations apply to the below energy-related products, where their requirements are set through Implementing Regulations:<\/p>\n\n

Air conditioners and comfort fans<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Air heating and cooling products<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Circulators<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Computers and computer servers<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Domestic ovens, hobs and range hoods<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Electric motors and variable speed drives<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Electronic displays including televisions<\/a><\/p>\n\n

External power supplies<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Hot-water boilers<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Household dishwashers<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Household tumble driers<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Household washing machines and washer-dryers<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Industrial fans<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Light sources and separate control gears<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Local space heaters<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Power transformers<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Professional refrigerated storage cabinets<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Refrigerating appliances<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Refrigerating appliances with a direct sales function<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Simple set-top boxes<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Solid fuel boilers<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Solid fuel local space heaters<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Space heaters<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Standby and off mode electric power consumption of household and office equipment and network standby<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Servers and data storage products<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Vacuum cleaners<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Ventilation units<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Water heaters and hot water storage tanks<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Water pumps<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Welding Equipment<\/a><\/p>\n\n

The ecodesign requirements do not apply to means of transport for persons or goods.<\/p>\n\n

Enforcement and penalties<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The regulations provide powers to Market Surveillance Directorate<\/a> (MSD), to take action against economic operators for products that are not in conformity with the regulations. MSD is required to take all appropriate measures to withdraw from the market or to prohibit or to restrict the supply of products bearing CE Marking which may endanger the health and safety of persons, property or the environment.<\/p>\n\n

Economic operators are required to co-operate with the enforcement authority<\/a> and on request, must provide information and take action as appropriate. Economic operators failing to comply with the requirements of the regulations are subject to the provisions of the Product Safety Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n
