The Gas Appliances Regulation (EU) 2016\/426 (GAR)<\/a> sets out requirements for products that burn gaseous fuels, including appliances used for cooking, heating, hot water production, and refrigeration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulation makes exemptions for appliances designed specifically for use in industrial processes carried out on industrial premises, aircraft and railways, as well as temporary use in laboratories for research purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Malta, gas appliances are regulated by the Appliances Burning Gaseous Fuels Regulations S.L. 427.97<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Important notice to Gaseous Fuels Suppliers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suppliers of gaseous fuels intended for use in appliances and fittings that fall within the scope<\/a> of GAR, are to inform MCCAA of the gases they supply. With reference to Article 4(1)<\/a> of the GAR, gas suppliers shall provide information regarding to their gas supply as specified in Annex II<\/a> of the regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any changes to this data are to be communicated with the MCCAA without delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gas suppliers are requested to complete the designated template<\/a> and submit it via email to rad@mccaa.org.mt<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presumption of Conformity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Appliances and fittings which are in conformity with harmonised standards or parts thereof the references of which have been published in the Official Journal of the European Union shall be presumed to be in conformity with the essential requirements set out in Annex I<\/a> covered by those standards or parts thereof.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presumption of conformity<\/a> with the essential requirements<\/a> is demonstrated by the application of EU harmonised standards<\/a> published in the OJEU. Economic operators may choose other technical solutions to demonstrate compliance with the GAR essential requirements though doing so does not ensure presumption of conformity. Before an appliance or a fitting regulated by GAR is placed on the market, the manufacturer shall submit the product to a conformity assessment procedure in accordance with Article 14<\/a>. Gas appliances covered under GAR must bear the CE marking<\/a> and be accompanied by a Declaration of Conformity<\/a>. Economic operators are to fulfil their respective obligations stipulated in Chapter 2<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
