In terms of regulation 5(4) of the Control of Concentrations Regulations, 2002 published in Legal Notice 294 of 2002, the Director General of the Office for Competition notifies for general information that a notification of a concentration between Dawn Meats Ireland Unlimited Company (Waterford, Republic of Ireland) and Kildare Chilling Company Unlimited Company (Kildare, Republic of Ireland) was filed on Thursday, 16 March 2023.
The nature of the concentration is the acquisition by Dawn Meats Ireland Unlimited Company of Kildare Chilling Company Unlimited Company.
Dawn Meats Ireland Unlimited Company is part of the Dawn Meats group of companies, ultimately owned by QDB Holdings IOM Unlimited. Dawn Meats is involved in a range of activities in the beef and lamb procurement and processing sectors, including animal slaughtering, primary processing (deboning), further processing of meat products, trading in non-processed commodity products and rendering of waste products. Dawn Meats also produces fresh meats, as well as processed products such as mince, burgers, ready meals and retail packs. Dawn Meats currently markets its products under a variety of brands including Black Angus, Red Hereford, Charolais Gold, Nature’s Meadow, West Cork Beef, Dawn Chef and The Premium Butcher.
Kildare Chilling Company Unlimited Company slaughters cattle and lamb, and processes beef and lamb. It markets its products under the Kildara and Heritage Town brands. In Malta, Kildare supplies bone in/less beef and lamb cuts fresh and frozen under the name Kildare Chilling Company.
