The MCCAA has updated the User Guidelines for Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Amendment) Regulations, 2023.
The proposed regulations transpose Commission Delegated Directives (EU) 2022/1631 and 2022/1632 by amending Schedule IV of the Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations, 2013 (S.L. 427.57). Thus, a new exemption for the use of lead in bismuth strontium calcium copper oxide (BSCCO) superconductor cables and wires and lead in their electrical connections, is being added for a period which expires on the 30th of June 2027. Furthermore, a renewal of a previously granted exemption for the use of lead in certain MRI devices, is being granted for a further period of 7 years.
