The MCCAA would like to remind the public about the dangers of swimming floats with canopies intended for babies.
In the photos, you can see examples of such floats. Due to the following factors, these were discovered to represent a serious risk of drowning:
A flat base indicates a higher level of instability and a higher risk of tipping over.
The probability of the float and the child being swept away by wind currents increases when the surface area to volume ratio is great.
Consumers who acquired these products, or similar, should stop using them immediately and return them to the store from where they were purchased.
The Authority reminds manufacturers, importers and distributors to only make available on the market products that are safe. Furthermore, economic operators selling, offering for sale and/or trading swimming floats for babies must guarantee that they comply with all applicable legislation.
