The MCCAA would like to inform consumers that, in an effort to secure rights to a refund for all effected consumers, the time window for the package tour operators to provide the refund in respect of package travel contracts cancelled between 1 March and 31 May 2020, has been extended to six months from the date the package travel contract is cancelled. 

This provision will support the effective protection of consumers right to a refund by aiding travel operators to weather the current extraordinary circumstances and the impact of numerous simultaneous cancellations, combined with a lack of new bookings during this period. 

Consumers continue to be encouraged to also consider alternative options being offered by travel operators such as modifying their travel plans to other dates.
