The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA), has withdrawn from the market the product ‘Superglue’ shown in the photo. This is because it was found to contain a large amount of Chloroform which can cause skin irritation and, worse than that, it could be detrimental to our health if inhaled or swallowed. Since this product does not comply with the REACH Regulation, it can be found on the RAPEX platform that is issued by the European Commission.
In view of this, consumers should avoid the use of this glue and are encouraged to return them in stores where purchased. Economic operators are ordered to cease selling or put this product on the market. In addition, the MCCAA should take action, as provided by law, against economic operators who continue to put this product on the market.
For questions and further information regarding this glue or products other than food, found on the Maltese market, one can contact the MCCAA on 23952000; [email protected] or by visiting www.mccaa.org.mt.
