Fertilisers

The Fertilisers (Implementation) Regulations of 2008 (Legal Notice 17 of 2008) implement the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003.  Furthermore, these regulations establish the languages that are allowed for the labelling of fertiliser.

Regulation (EC) No. 2003/2003 on Fertilisers establishes rules designed for products which are placed on the market as fertilisers designated with ‘EC fertiliser’ to ensure that sufficient action of internal market in fertilisers is achieved by Member States as well as circulate freely within the Community, while, at the same time, ensuring a high degree of protection of the environment and human health.

Regulation (EC) No. 2003/2003 on Fertilisers:

 For this purpose, this Regulation harmonises the following rules for the placing on the market of fertilisers:

  • The additional labelling of fertilisers, including the compulsory statements and markings (compulsory identification or optional identification);
  • Compliance of EC fertilisers with the tolerances established in Annex II;
  • Requirements for the inclusion of a fertiliser in Annex I to inorganic primary nutrient fertilisers, solid or fluid, straight or compound, including those containing secondary nutrients and/or micro-nutrients with the minimum nutrient content being established; &
  • Control measures.

The Fertilisers (Implementation) Regulations of 2008 (Legal Notice 17 of 2008) implement the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003.  Furthermore, these regulations establish the languages that are allowed for the labelling of fertilisers.

Information on amendments to Regulation (EC) No 2003/2003 can be accessed at the Commission’s Enterprise website concerning fertilisers.
