Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Amendment No. 2)
The proposed provisions transpose Commission Delegated Directive (EU) 2024/232 by amending Schedule III and Schedule VIII of the Restriction of Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations (S.L. 427.57), thereby providing for the following exemption:
an exemption for cadmium and lead in plastic profiles in electrical and electronic windows and doors containing recovered rigid polyvinyl chloride, for a limited validity period until 28 May 2028.
The aforementioned exemptions allow for the use of certain substances in electrical and electronic equipment for a limited period of time, where the substitution and, or elimination of such substances is technically or scientifically impractical. The proposed short term exemption extensions have not been considered as having a detrimental effect on the environmental and health protection.
